Putting the Thanks in THANKSgiving

By Katey Herndon

During the Thanksgiving prayer service on Tuesda

y, November 21st, students shared letters to loved ones, family, and friends. Senior, Abby Harlan wanted to add more to this annual event. In addition to several students reading letters to a variety of people, teachers and staff received a flower at the end and a letter of thanks from a senior. Harlan’s senior dream was for every teacher and staff member to receive a letter of thanks from the senior class. Harlan’s aunt used to be a teacher and they did something similar at her school, inspiring Harlan to do it at Assumption.

It was very important that every single teacher and staff member received a letter. “They work so hard and don’t get enough recognition,” said Harlan on the teachers and staff at Assumption. The senior class was emailed a link to a survey where they were randomly given a teacher or staff member’s name to write to. Many seniors wrote several letters. The turnout was great, over half the senior class participated. Many teachers did not see anything like this coming, everybody worked hard to not share the secret. It was a great way to honor the great the faculty and staff and the time and effort they put into everything they do for us.
