Assumption has gained another alumna on their faculty: the new retreat director, Julia Scudder! With the leave of the former director, Dr. Schindler, Scudder was more than happy to take her place. She says she has always loved working with students, specifically the young women at Assumption because of their “desire to grow, achieve, and pursue great things”.
Many things brought Scudder back to Assumption. Despite her higher education background, she says she knew she would be “surrounded by the tremendous staff and faculty who do such incredible things on a daily basis” at Assumption. She also mentions the convenience of her new job being closer to home. She even thanks teachers like Katie Hughbanks and Becca Joaquin for inspiring her decision to declare a Secondary Education major as an undergraduate with the intention of coming back to her high school which is her home.
Even though she is thrilled to be here, she was hesitant at first. By her senior year of college, she switched her major to Organizational Leadership. She also received a Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel. With this change of plans, she did not anticipate on ever ending up at Assumption. When asked if she was hesitant to take up the position, she told of her experience this last summer. She supervised twenty-two students at IU Southeast as they facilitated the new student orientations. “That group of students was just outstanding. I loved them dearly and had a hard time leaving them.” Even though her recent plans did not include Assumption, she is here now and thrilled to be back!
