Little Women – Big Success

The highlight of my winter break was seeing the film Little Women, not once but twice. Simply put, it was phenomenal. This story, published in 1868, is a timeless story that deserves and should be shared with the world, especially with women. It revolves around the March family and tells a story of four sisters. Little Women is so important because it shows what it was like to be a woman in the time of the civil war, and it is so easy to see the similarities within society today. The sisters face struggles with independence, money, love, and family just as so many women do today. People have gone back to this story for decades. It provides the audience with something deeper than just a text or something no the screen. It gives the audience something to believe in, find joy in, relate to, and fall in love with. Women today deserve and should hear this story, so they can see strong women who follow their dreams.

The 2019 adaptation was not the first. Since its publishing, Little Women has been adapted in to a play performed on the highest stages and in high schools, an opera, into six feature films, and multiple TV shows. The 2019 film has been a fan favorite. It has six Academy Award nominations for best picture, best adapted screenplay, best actress, best supporting actress, best original score, and best costume design. The director, Greta Gerwig, cast the film beautifully with big names like Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, and Timothee Chalamet. The level of talent within in this film is truly extraordinary.  The movie was filmed in Massachusetts, where the story takes place, so the set is so realistic and beautiful.  Every piece of the film was crafted with such authenticity, viewers cannot take their eyes off of it. I highly recommend you see this film, this timeless story will stick with you throughout your life.
