The swim season entered the post-season with a bang at their regionals on Friday, April 16. They were off school for the swim meet and began their day with a team practice at the Woods of St. Thomas pool. This gave the team an opportunity to further prepare for the meet later that day. The regional meet was held at the Blairwood Country Club and their theme was Rockets Rock! They dressed up as rock stars or rocks and went all out for their theme. Head Coach Rick says, “The main goal for the meet is to have fun.” The team ended up placing second overall the meet for the third year in a row. Ella Welch ‘22 won the 50 and 100 free and lowered her state record in the 100 free. Eden Humphrey ’22 won the 500 free. Many other several got personal best times in their races. The team had a great time racing and cheering each other on.
The swim state meet was held on Saturday, April 24. 9 swimmers and one diver competed at this event. The team swam incredibly and finished as the state runner-up for the first time in school history! The swimmers are so proud and excited, especially because they now get a state banner in the gym. Ella Welch won her individual events, the 50 and 100 free and lowered her state record in the 100 as well with a time of 48.85. Eden Humphrey also won the 500 free. Coach Rick said, “The Assumption Swim and Dive team accomplished history this week by finishing runner up at the state meet. Words cannot describe how proud I am of the team for all they were able to accomplish this season. Their ability to overcome so much adversity and fight for each other was remarkable to see. They are a great group of young women, and I am proud to be their coach.”
