Our local Louisville zoo located just five minutes from Assumption High School, offers much to see including mammals as big as the African Elephant or as small as Carpenter Ants. The zoo has much to offer: Trivia nights, Spring Day camps, photography basics, and breakfast with the orangutans. The zoo has also recently added a rare breed of Arapawa goats to their home, named Cash and Stache, available in the Boma Petting Zoo.
Some other fun additions include Bianca the binturong, spending most of her time in the trees.
A 1 ½-month-old infant male western lowland gorilla, Abeo has been slowly introduced to the Gorilla Forest habitat. He is currently on rotation with Kweli while the Gorilla Care Team works on the family integration process.
Male koalas Dharuk and Telowie have journeyed from San Diego to join the crew. The exhibit has not seen any koalas since 2000, but these cute furry friends will be here to stay.
Next, a new female Red panda, Gansu, arrived from the Knoxville Zoo in July 2024 and is now available at the red panda exhibit with the other Red Panda, Sundara.
And finally, Gorilla Patty, an 11-year-old western lowland gorilla who came over with her family group, Casey, Paki, Kweli, and Kindi. Patty has been known to be a socially savvy gorilla and her acclimation to her environment has been going smooth.
Come visit the local zoo with all they have to offer! The many animals are eager to see new visitors and get acclimated to their new home. The best times to visit these magnificent creatures are at their feeding times of 11:30 am for their breakfast and 2:30 pm for their lunch. They will be the most active and closest to your view.
