This month, we highlighted Assumption’s golf and volleyball teams on WAHS: The Rocket Launch. We reviewed their success and how it’s directly related to their relationships away from competition.
After much success, golf team captain Geriann Ackermann shares how the team has achieved multiple top 5 finishes in tournaments. Their connections made off the course can easily be seen during their competitions, which is leading to a successful season for the Assumption Golf team.
Along with the bonds the teammates have formed, countless hours of practice have also been put in to help their swing. As a student-athlete and multi-sport athlete, Ackermann manages being captain by having good time-management and completing assignments before playing 9 holes. The role as captain is very important to Ackermann because on a team with only two seniors, there are many underclasswomen looking up to her. Ackermann is very excited for the rest of their season and is looking forward to their continued success.
We also spoke to Chloe Smith, captain of the volleyball team. The team is doing well this season, even after competing against other highly ranked teams. They continue to push each other to improve every day, both mentally and physically.
Outside of practices and games, the team works to build bonds with one another. They participate in team dinners, trips, and other activities. The team is always working to help each other in many ways, including assisting with homework between games or practices. Teamwork is one of the biggest components of volleyball, and we can see this paying off through their successful season.
As Ackermann and Smith state, teamwork is a huge part of the volleyball and golf teams. Being close with each other is what they believe leads to their many success’.
