Winter can be a drab time for anyone. Gray skies, bare trees, the mood can get a little down in the house. But instead of staying cooped up inside, watching episode after episode of television, pick up a novel and immerse yourself in a whole new world.
Pride and Prejudice is a classic novel written by Jane Austen. Although the novel was published in 1813, the old British language is not too difficult to understand, which makes it a pleasant read for everyone.
The story follows a family known as the Bennett’s, with five daughters, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. As this book was set in England, around this time, the main goal of the parents was to see that their daughters were married and not left alone to be spinsters.
The five Bennett’s become entangled in relationships between a Mr. Bingley, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Collins, and Mr. Wickham. Just as a typical love story, there is heartbreak and there is conflict. But most importantly, there is true love with “the one.” The storyline of Pride and Prejudice includes all of this, with twists and turns that will keep you engaged throughout the whole novel.
Once you pick up Pride and Prejudice, you are transformed into a world entirely unlike your own. The English culture will captivate you, and you will find yourself falling in love with the characters falling in love.
So instead of watching yet another episode, read Pride and Prejudice. Because as all is fair in love and war, all is fair in Pride and Prejudice.
