Songs for Graduation

With seniors walking out of the Tyler Lane doors for the final time yesterday came the week of graduation events. For many seniors, graduation comes with a wide variety of emotions – from excitement to melancholy. The Rocket Launch has created a playlist of songs about change to soundtrack every graduation event.

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

This classic Assumption anthem is more than just a catchy song to sing at pep rallies, it is also a song about change. As seniors move onto the next chapter of their life, remembering that what comes next is unwritten is important and can bring a sense of comfort to any graduates moving onto something unknown.

Night Changes by One Direction

This 2014 One Direction song came out when current graduates were in grade school and serves as a reminder of where they started before Assumption became their second home. This song talks about how fast things change and for many graduates this is a feeling they can relate to going into graduation week.

You’re On Your Own Kid by Taylor Swift

This song was released on Taylor Swifts Midnights album and is reminiscent of the childhood AHS graduates are saying goodbye to. Many of these graduates grew up listening to Taylor Swift, so it is only fitting that her song about being on your own now soundtracks their introduction into adulthood.

My Way by Frank Sinatra

The class of 2024 ended their final bleacher dance with this song, and it is indicative of their end to Assumption. The class of 2024 is unique in that they came in freshman year in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and had a late start to bonding as a class. But, that did not stop this class from making memories and traditions. This class is coming to an end at Assumption, but that does not mean that they are not going out with a bang. They walked out of this building as individuals ready to take on the world.
