20 Movies that Pass the Bechdel Test
March 27, 2023
Women in film have progressed in the past 135 years of film making. Going from nameless side roles to becoming empowering protagonists, women have taken on leading roles in the big screen.
The Bechdel test is a way to evaluate how these women are portrayed in film. For a movie to pass the test it must have two women (with names) appear on screen and have a conversation, not related to a man.
While the test sounds simple, roughly 40 percent of movies fail. Popular movies, such as The Avengers, The Social Network, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire do not pass this criterion.
With March being Women’s History Month, it’s important to acknowledge the accomplishments of women in the film industry. Here is a list of 20 movies that pass the Bechdel test so you can celebrate these actresses’ accomplishments this month.
- “Wonder Woman” (2017)
- “Hidden Figures” (2016)
