Fall break is the mid-semester mark at Assumption, and it is time to check in with our art classes to see what they have done this year! Assumption offers a variety of intro and advanced level art classes for students to take over their four years here. Students spend time learning the arts of ceramics, drawing, painting, writing, and graphic design, just to name a few! Read on to learn about what some of the art classes have done so far this semester.
Intro to ceramics is the intro level ceramics course offered at Assumption. The intro students have spent time working with planes, or flat services. They built structures out of cardboard, and they used flat clay pieces to create vessels and plates with their initials. Freshman, Ashley W. said, “This class is a very fun, great way to release stress.” Ceramics 1 girls have been working on jars and are now creating tea pots!
Intro to drawing and painting started their semester creating pen ink drawings of their own houses. They then started working on “Zentangles” which are pen drawings of squares mixed with different shapes and designs. Now, they are working on a still life pencil drawing of an egg and it’s shadow. Students say they love this class because it is super relaxing, and you don’t actually have to be good at art.
Graphic design is a super fun course at Assumption! Graphic design is a lot like the other arts at Assumption, except it is all on the computer! It is great for an articulate mind. So far, the graphic design class has gone over elements and principles, created badges for themselves, and are working on the timeline of graphic design.
These are just a few of the art classes Assumption has to offer. Look out for some of the fun creations hanging in the halls throughout the building. Also, don’t forget to save some of your artwork to submit to the Rose Window, the Journalism art magazine!
