Catherine Sellmer is an Assumption Alumnae of the graduating class of 2021 who roamed the halls of Assumption, like many others, with disordered eating habits and a low self-image. Habits like excessive exercise, restrictive eating and a negative mindset are traits that can harm physical and mental health. Sellmer’s own experience with disordered eating has inspired her campaign, Great At Any Weight, to help reach others to encourage healthy eating and exercising habits. As founder, Sellmer turned a modest Instagram account into a thriving organization aimed towards young people to inspire them to love and respect their bodies and steer away from harmful eating habits and mindsets. She has furthered her knowledge of mental health by receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology and studying for a master’s in social work.

Sellmer’s achievements extend past her foundation and include her time participating in pageantry in order to heal her self-image. Sellmer won the title Miss Harvest Homecoming 2023 and Miss Indiana South 2023. Pageants were a way for Sellmer to share her story and reach out to others who might have the same struggles and no resources. Her passion for teaching others healthy ways to engage in exercise and improving self-image has brought her to Assumptions Mental Health Awareness club to speak to our members. As a former president of the club, she offered lots of insight to our current students about how to prevent or seek help for eating disorders.
