One of Assumption’s most exciting traditions of the year is spirit week! Students dress up for a different theme each day of the week. The themes are decided by Varsity Club and are shared publicly through social media.
Assumption aims to create a week filled with school spirit, style, and most of all, fun. It’s a nice break from the usual uniform. This year, we’re starting off strong on Tuesday with “Dapper Dude” Day. Students will become frat dude divas and finance bro beauties ready to strut their stuff. On Wednesday, students take Safari and camo to the next level. Thursday, a classic bbq dad vs. soccer mom showdown. Who will win? Friday is the most exciting day of all, with students going all out in neon to celebrate the winter pep rally!
Adding to the excitement of Friday’s pep rally is the seniors’ “Fly Girls” dance. Fly girls is a senior dream turned into reality that the whole school looks forward to every winter. Seniors will be decked out in black while students rock neon, cheering them on. Rocket reporters are so excited to see what the dance team has created for the seniors this year.
While students were looking forward to the fun week, the weather had a different plan. Just before the excitement could begin, the city of Louisville received a massive winter storm. With this crazy weather, the first three days of school were cancelled. This caused Assumption to have to reschedule spirit week!
As this was upsetting for the students, there were a few silver linings to the storm clouds. Now, students have had a lot more time to plan and get their costumes together. There is no rush to come up with last minute outfits or ideas. Another positive is the weather will be slightly warmer when the excitement arrives rather than braving below zero in your best bbq-themed outfit. Above all, students have shown their ability to weather the storm and maintain their excitement for the Spirit Week festivities. We can’t wait to see how things unfold.
