The delicious oat and marshmallow cereal, Lucky Charms, was released in 1964. John Holohan, the creator, wanted to combine Circus Peanuts and Cheerios to make the taste of the cereal. Then, in 1967, those oats became sugar frosted. Lucky the Leprechaun was released on St. Patrick’s Day. He is the mascot of the cereal and is found on the front of all the boxes. In order to maintain excitement with marketing, over 60 different marshmallows have rotated through the lineup, with the pink heart being the only one that has always remained. The marshmallows have become such a hit in recent years, and they can now be bought by themselves and come in a variety of flavors.
