Snow covers Kentucky, piling up inch by inch as people stare out the window in disbelief. Over the past two weeks, the U.S. has faced with over 2 feet of snow, keeping many civilians from doing everyday activities.
JCPS and all Catholic schools over the past had to do school remotely. This can be a real struggle for many students due to Wi-Fi issues, little remote help for students with learning disabilities, and much more. The snow also can cause major injuries when it comes to transportation, causing cars to slip and slide on the roads and forcing pedestrians to walk in the street due to slippery, covered sidewalks.
It’s important to always stay safe when dealing with snowy weather, especially when ice patches are involved. Two teen girls from Texas were being pulled by a Jeep as they sat on a sled. Both were then thrown into a tree and faced severe injuries, with one unfortunately not making it. Let this be a reminder that even in the rush and fun of snow days, there is danger in unfamiliar conditions.
On a brighter note, many girls at Assumption have been doing lots of fun activities in the snow. Junior Hailey Saner, ‘27 said “I enjoyed the snow very much. My favorite part is looking at my backyard as I do my NTI work.”
Louisville has been resilient in the face of the storm. Snow piles were quickly cleared off the streets within a few days after all the snow had fallen. Assumptions and many other schools have increased flexibility when it comes to students turning into their work, able to stay on schedule due to NTI, or non-traditional instruction. Now that it is officially March, we can look back and fully appreciate warmer temperatures and a clear drive to school or work each morning.
