Time to run through a rainbow

Shelby Weigel

It is almost time for the Color Run to come to Louisville again. It started in March of 2011 and it has gotten bigger ever since. It hosted more than 170 events in more than 30 countries in 2013 alone. It also is stated to be the original paint race. Now, there are many other races with a theme of color. The Color Run started the new category of races like this.

This race is known as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet” and its purpose is to bring the community together by promoting being happy and healthy. It is a five kilometer (3.1 miles) untimed race. This is unlike any other racing event because from start to finish, the runners are always jumping, dancing around, and having fun.

Runners wear white to the starting line, knowing their clothes will never be white again. At one point in each of the 5 kilometers the thousands of runners are covered from head to toe by volunteers spraying and throwing different colors from the sides.

After the race, the runners can join in the Finish Festival. Here, there is music, dancing, and enormous color throws. The photo shown was taken during one of the many color throws in the Finish Festival.

If runners can get a group of four or more together, the price is $50 a person. Runners can also just sign themselves up for $55 and get a group together later. One of the best parts is that The Color Run has partnered with over 80 charities since 2012 and has donated over $3 million.
