Seniors say goodbye for the last time

Taylor Duvall

Lots of tears were shed and hugs shared as the seniors officially said goodbye to their teachers Thursday, May 8. Every year, on the seniors’ last day, they are granted one last privilege: to leave school early. Granted, they do have to come back to take exams, practice for graduation, and pass on their parking spots to the underclassmen.

Parents started filling up the sidewalk in front of the Tyler Lane entrance on Thursday around 2 p.m., even though seniors weren’t set to walk-out until after 2:30 p.m. The crowd held up various posters and signs with proud proclamations and heart-felt sentiments on them. Even a few blown-up pictures of some seniors’ heads were displayed.

Ten minutes before official walk-out time, teachers came out to line a path outside the doors the seniors exited from. Claire James was the first of the class of 2014 to make it out the doors. Right inside the doors seniors were handed a sheet of paper that had the song “Forever Young” printed on one side and a letter to the Class of 2014 from the Faculty and Staff on the other. Like most senior things, the paper was pink with a rose on it.

At first, the seniors exited in a single-file, orderly line, but as more people left, order was forgotten. By the time the school bell rang, the Tyler Lane entrance was so crowded with people that it was hard to navigate. Underclassmen had to fight their way through all the crying parents, seniors, and teachers just to get to the parking lot.Senior Walk-out
