Seniors recognized for their achievements throughout the year

Olivia Polston

This year’s senior award ceremony opened up with a prayer from Hannah Mattingly and a senior address from Julia Mikulec. As she spoke about Assumption’s victory over Sacred Heart in the Pink & White game this spring, it was made clear that we wouldn’t have been able to do that without love. Love for the senior class, love for our school and enough love for each other to be able to come together and beat Sacred Heart.

Not only did this year’s senior class win the Pink & White game, they also received many awards and scholarships for academics and service to the school and community. They earned over 1.6 million dollars in Kentucky Excellence Scholarship funds and contributed more than 9,932 hours of service during their senior year alone, with more than 22,000 total hours over their past four years of high school.

Students received national awards for sports, writing, and service as well. Alex Filly was the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year, Madison Wessel won the President’s Volunteer Service Award and Hannah Rose Marks won the Fireside Essay Contest Scholarship. Those were just a few of the many national awards given to this year’s seniors.

The ceremony was completed with a farewell from Principal Becky Henle and the seniors standing and singing the Assumption Alma Mater. Finally, they processed out and are ready to go on to graduation this Saturday May, 17 at 11 am, where they will 57th graduating class of Assumption High School.Julia M speaking at senior award pic by anna rucker
