Put a ring on it
October 30, 2014
It’s that time of year again: tournament time. The time that every team has been working towards. The time where all of the fall sports at AHS are heading into their state tournaments, hoping to end the year with a championship title.
Last year, three out of the five fall sports won state championships and it was a big accomplishment for AHS. The three-ring circus consisted of field hockey, volleyball, and cross country. The soccer and the golf team also had a fantastic season, but, unfortunately, came up short.
The volleyball team was defeated by Sacred Heart in a tough match of their semi-final region game. The soccer team also suffered a tough loss to Sacred Heart, losing in a close match-up of penalty kicks.
Field hockey won state championships for the second year in a row, defeating Mercy 4-0 in the final game. They also previously beat Ballard in the quarterfinals and Sacred Heart in the semifinals. Their victory was the first official KHSAA state championship for the sport of field hockey, which made it all the more special.
Cross country is still on the road to state, running in their regional race this Saturday, Nov. 1. The race begins at 11:30 am, at Tom Sawyer Park.

We must commend the teams of Assumption and their tremendous efforts thus far, and also support the teams that are still competing. Go rockets, put a ring on it!
