Nepal was struck by the worst earthquake they have experienced in 80 years on April 25. The quake struck near Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. With a death toll rising above 4,800, more than 9,200 people injured, and thousands of people fleeing the country, the devastation is evident.

Several aftershocks rocked the country as well, with one having a magnitude of 6.7. Several monuments and a UNESCO historical site were toppled and left in ruins. Temples, towers, and other sacred sights (some of which were built in the 1800s) crumbled to pieces.

The Kathmandu Valley is home to over 2.5 million people, but many people have yet to receive aid due to the immensity of the destruction left. Rural areas near the epicenter of the quake are beginning to receive aid, but many are still struggling to find food and clean water.

Since Nepal relied heavily on tourism, their economy is going to struggle for the next couple of years. Mt. Everest, one of the main tourist attractions of Nepal, had several dangerous avalanches because of the earthquake.
