Drinking Gatorade vs. Drinking Water

By: Cassidy Anderson

Everyone has heard the saying “if you’re playing sports you need to drink water.” But is this true?

While people are playing sports, the body loses a lot of fluids and electrolytes while being active. That’s where drinking water or other drinks come into place. If you don’t consume liquid, then it will cause dehydration.

Water has a big role of keeping your body balanced and hydrated. It helps to regulate your body temperature and also sends nutrients to your cells.

When you perform a physical activity that causes you to sweat, your body loses a large amount of water. This causes hydration which a lot of athletes suffer.

It is very important that when you’re thirsty, not just playing a sport, that you drink enough water so you’re well-hydrated.

It is known that Gatorade is a very important sports drink. A lot of pro-athletes advertise it and supports it.

Gatorade contains a large amount of electrolytes and carbohydrates that are produced by your body. It helps your body retain those lipids that are lost while you’re sweating.

This drink also has a high amount of calories which provides energy while you’re playing.

Gatorade is best if you are preforming high level physical activity.

On the other hand water is better to drink before and after a moderate exercise.

Since Gatorade is full with carbohydrates, people shouldn’t drink it on regular basics. It is only good for replacing fluid.

Water should be everyone’s first choice of fluid when you’re not doing physical activity.
